When I hear the word, work, there is a sense of drudgery that is all too familiar: I am led to offer excuses to get out of working with a particular group if those feelings aren’t compatible with the feelings of the group that I have been working with in the group project; that requires each member to do their part until the project is completed.
You see, the word, work, connotes drudgery; and, having to perform something that don’t fit your mode of behavior is something that you don’t want to do. Or; if it is something that you don’t want to do, then you will obviously have reservations for performing such work.
So, to counter those reservations, you need to view work in more realistic terms. Thus, you should think of work not as a sense of drudgery, but as something necessary, even vital for you to support not only yourself, but also your family.
Still, work is often considered drudgery. Not only for the aforementioned reasons, but also for the many excuses that people offer to get out of working. This is when you have to put your mettle where your mouth is and speak up if you happen to be the group leader of a project that is not very popular with the members.
You see, a project that is unpopular will be abandoned by the members if the group leader is not able to motivate them. So, being a motivator of people is a pre-requisite to keep the project steadily moving forward.
Motivation requires foresight as well as insight to keep the ball moving in the direction that you intend for it to go.
